Difficulty in Understanding Numbers

Dyscalculia is a math-related condition in which adults find themselves difficult to keep track of numbers, perform simple calculations, and memorize basic math facts. Dyscalculia can occur in people across the whole IQ range, along with difficulties with time, measurement, and spatial reasoning. Estimates of the prevalence of dyscalculia range from 3% to 6% of the population. In 2015, it was established that 11% of children with dyscalculia also have ADHD.

Symptom:

· Trouble doing mental math; gives incorrect change, for instance, or needs a calculator to figure out a tip

· Frequently late, occasionally missing important events altogether

· Often drives too fast or too slow, or vastly misjudges how long it will take to drive somewhere

· Needs to write down a phone number immediately to remember it

· Gets lost easily; misplaces objects

· Struggles to keep score in games; often loses track of whose turn it is

· Poor memory for anything number-related, like dates or facts

· Struggles to learn dance steps or anything involving motor sequencing

· Trouble handling money or keeping track of finances

· Trouble understanding graphs or charts

· Often gets several different answers to the same math problem; needs to check work over and over again

Management:

Dyscalculia is not something you can get treated from. What you can do is to make your Dyscalculia easier to live and cope with.

· Make it a habit of writing important things down. Even if you think you will remember them, just write it down. It will make things so much easier.

· Download a map application.

· Have a credit card instead of cash when paying with big money.

· Use Coin Case which help you avoid counting and makes your life easier with coins.

· Use pictures to study and learn information.

· You can use music to coordinate with patterns.
